Following Julia's groundbreaking work in Canine Myotherapy she set up the Galen Myotherapy Education Programme to share her knowledge to enrich the lives of dogs across the world.

We’re the longest running and most experienced, specialist in canine massage training in the UK, and we're thrilled to share these with the market in Australia and surrounding areas. Our courses is lead the way in prevention, management and treatment of movement and allied disorders in dogs. It encompasses a wide educational framework including workshops, online courses, CPD opportunities and qualifications in Canine Myotherapy.

The cornerstone of our Education Programme is the internationally acclaimed Galen Canine Myotherapy Diploma. This course has been successfully running since 2006, and was the first fully externally accredited course specialising in canine massage/myotherapy. Dogs with behaviour problems often have muscle pain, and the real problem is not discovered. Julia is a great teacher, and she will teach you how to understand muscles and build them up the right way, how to assess a dog’s muscle problems, and how to help the dog. Galen Canine Myotherapy Diploma

The Level 3 diploma level is a comprehensive programme that gives you all the skills you need to work and treat dogs to achieve long-lasting health and wellness.

The self-paced training modules will teach you the intricacies of how the canine body works, how to assess posture, behaviour and functional movement patterns and importantly it will give you the diverse skills needed to apply effective treatment programs, including specialised massage techniques using our revolutionary Positive P.A.C.T.® treatment protocols.

Galen Myotherapy Foundation Course

Our Foundation course is a great starting point for dog owners and handlers who are looking to gain an understanding of their dog’s movement and functional anatomy, and to learn some skills which will help to improve their dog’s health using the principles of Galen Myotherapy. The course is available globally, however we're proud to offer BHARCS clients in India a discount on the cost of the course.

This unique online course is packed with information in a fun learning environment. It’s ideal for anyone who is interested in gaining an understanding of their dog’s habits and behaviours, and how this relates to their dog’s comfort.

Through Galen’s many years of research and treatment of thousands of dogs, we have found many indicators which can be directly associated with muscle discomfort and also pain. The link between a dog's habits and comfort level is absolutely fascinating and is something that Galen has been talking about for over a decade.

This course will teach you about muscle pain from a dog’s perspective and how simple environmental and activity changes can make a positive impact on your own dog’s health.

During the course you will also be given the tools to apply two practical massage techniques which you can apply to your dog to enhance their wellbeing.

This is purely a theory course which can be completed online via our dedicated Student Portal.

The course is made up of 6 units and each unit has a handful of easy quizzes to complete to aid learning.

The Course Learning Journey

Below we've answered some of the common questions we get asked about our Introduction to Canine Anatomy and Physiology course.

Who is the course for?
The course is aimed at students with no prior knowledge and is 100% online so you can complete it wherever you feel most comfortable — and whenever it best fits into your schedule.

Our course is suitable for:

Hydrotherapists and groomers looking to broaden their knowledge
Students looking for a theory only course
If you have no prior knowledge of anatomy and physiology
People who enjoy distance study

How is the course structured?
This is purely a theory course which can be completed online via our dedicated Student Portal.

The course is divided into four units, each containing a number of tasks and learning topics (there are generally around 6/7 tasks within each unit).

Unit 1 – Cells and Skin
Unit 2 – The Skeletal System and the Muscular System
Unit 3 – The Circulatory and the Respiratory System
Unit 4 – The Nervous, Endocrine and Digestive Systems

The total learning hours for the course are 240 hours with each unit taking around 60 hours to complete. This is a home study course therefore you can complete it in your own time frame.

How is the course accredited and assessed?
This is a Level 3 externally accredited course through the Laser Learning Awards. The theory work is broken down into tasks which can be answered in a variety of formats including essays, video, template completion, diagram and forms to create a flexible and engaging learning process. There are no final theory exams as tutors continually assess knowledge throughout the course as each task is assessed on submission via our secure Student Portal. This ensures regular constructive and open feedback so all students are clear as to the expectations of the course.

How much does the course cost?

CONTINUING PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

CPD Course for Veterinary Professionals

We are in the process of developing a new course which will support Vets and Veterinary professionals.

The course will give you an in-depth understanding of the link between pain and behaviour based on 20 years of experience and research. You’ll learn about Galen Myotherapy’s revolutionary treatment protocols and how massage therapy and rehabilitative exercise management can form a comprehensive and effective treatment plan for conditions such as osteoarthritis, repetitive strain injuries, ongoing and undiagnosed lameness and mobility issues associated with obesity. Discover the importance of postural and functional movement assessment when evaluating how a dog presents including compensatory and loading issues. Learn techniques to repattern and re-enliven effective kinetic chains to enhance mobility and give clear guidance to dog owners on the impact of their dog’s environment on their musculoskeletal health.
