SUPPORTING YOUR DOG, AND SUPPORTING YOU

Our Distance Support Programme

Over the last 2 years we have developed a Galen Myotherapy Distance Support Programme, that incorporates our 20 years of experience, to provide a supported ‘owner at-home’ treatment programme. Due to the instrinsic 'remote support' nature of this, it is something that we offer globally, and are pleased to be able to provide this service to dogs and owners in India and all across the world.

"Through the programme Flynn’s tail is no longer stiff, and he is sleeping on his side more. The vet has said he is doing better in terms of pain, and he is putting on a little weight which he needed to. Thank you so much!’
~ Carolyn Day, Devon

This programme enables 1:1 professional guidance for you as an owner, to enable you to help your dog. You will be supported remotely, through the programme, by your own dedicated, experienced Galen Myotherapist.

This programme was originally designed for owners who were not geographically close to a Galen Myotherapist and was inspired by our founder Julia Robertson travels and meeting dog owners from across the globe, who were wanting help for their dogs.

During the lockdown restrictions imposed in many areas across the globe in 2020, this programme truly came into it's own, and we were able help dogs who were not able to see their normal treatment provider. Whilst this doesn't replace veterinary care it has been a highly effective tool to support the muscular health of dogs.

What we can help with

Our Distance Support Programme can help with many conditions and situations, including:

  • Dogs slowing down
  • Reluctance to be active
  • Stiffness
  • Ongoing lameness
  • Intermittent lameness following veterinary consultation
  • The effects of arthritis (treating the muscular compensatory discomfort)
  • Underlying conditions, hip dysplasia
  • Compensatory issues
  • ‘Tripawd’ dogs (Three-legged dogs)
  • Some behavioural problems, excessive licking of feet/body/ chewing/itching

Practically every lameness in a dog will be from a muscular problem and most of the conditions we see are as a result of underlying conditions, old injuries or repetitive strains.
See the difference we can make
"The difference in him through treatment has been amazing. He is back to his usual self now and to watch the improvement with the knowledge that I had helped make the difference to his well being was such a fantastic feeling. Julia has been amazing, guiding me and helping to improve Alfie’s well-being through the distance programme. I have learnt so much about him and to know that I have made a difference means the world to me"

‘Julia and Galen were a catalyst in the creation of Canine Arthritis Management (CAM). Through doing the Galen Myotherapy diploma, my eyes were opened to the physical and emotional signs of pain and discomfort we see in our dogs. It also opened my mind to improved ways to manage it. I am so pleased to see that they have created a foundation course for owners and also a distance support programme that gives owners support and valuable information about how they can help their dogs. Galen says they "enrich the lives of dogs" they really do!’

DISTANCE SUPPORT PROGRAMME

How it works

You will be sent a form to complete, asking you for specific photos and videos of your dog, these will form a major part of your Galen Myotherapist’s assessment.

You will also be asked to complete our Galen Comfort Scale©, which is a scale that we have developed from years of experience, identifying behavioural and physical changes that relate to a dogs physical and muscular health. This information is critical for the Myotherapist to be able to assess your dog, as well as a tool for measuring improvement in your dog’s long term health and well-being. After you have returned the completed forms, videos and photos to your dedicated Galen Myotherapist, they will then be fully assessed. Your dog’s Galen Comfort Scale© will also be analysed to plot your dog's current state of comfort. This will also give valuable information to track their changes and recovery through everyday observations.

The full assessment report of your dog will then be sent to you. It will have literally ‘nose to tail’ assessment on your dog’s posture and loading, explaining how it could relate to any issue/s they may have and you are observing.

The report will demonstrate pictorial ‘comparisons’, giving you a very clear insight into how, and what, we are basing our evaluations. It will be totally specific to your dog; giving clear, functional and practical information and advice, for you to incorporate and use to support the health and wellbeing of your dog.

Within the report will be recommendations and clearly instructed videos on how and where to perform three safe and highly effective techniques. The videos will introduce and guide you through how you can integrate Galen’s Positive P.A.C.T.®, choice led treatment into your own treatment.

As well as other recommendations or ideas about how possibly, some environmental changes could also help your dog. The programme also includes a 6 week follow up for you to receive feedback on your application and any questions you may have to your dedicated Galen Myotherapist professional.

Our 8 week DSP+ package gives you all the benefits of DSP, plus you will receive a tailored 6 week Home Exercise Plan, featuring Galen’s unique functional biomechanics exercises, adapted for your dog to improve their overall, mobility, flexibility and strength - targeting and strengthening your dog’s weaker areas. We’ll send you detailed instructions and work with you to ensure you're both performing the exercises correctly. Then at 3 weeks you’ll have a check in with your dedicated Myotherapist to ensure you and your canine partner are on track. No specialist equipment will be required and the exercises can be done in your house, garden or whilst out on a walk using natural obstacles and items.

On completion of DSP+ you will also be given an exercise maintenance programme so you can continue to improve your dog’s musculoskeletal health.

We've also a fantastic offer which bundles the Distance Support Programme with our Galen Myotherapy Foundation Course for a great discounted price. You can read more about this below.

Client Stories

It's wonderful to hear from our clients who have enrolled their dogs in the Distance Support Programme, and we're thrilled to be able to share their comments with you below.

"I joined the distance programme when Alfie started to show signs of being uncomfortable after exercise. The difference in him through treatment has been amazing. He is back to his usual self now and to watch the improvement with the knowledge that I had helped make the difference to his well being was such a fantastic feeling. Julia is one of the most sincere people I’ve had the pleasure of knowing. Dogs really are at the heart of everything she does. Highest of recommendations!

Alfie is an ex obedience dog and was showing signs of being uncomfortable particularly after exercise and rest. I found Galen after doing some research and I am so pleased that I did! The difference in Alfie over a short period of time is truly amazing. He is much more comfortable, happy and enjoying everything with the usual Alfie verve and enthusiasm!

When you know something isn’t right with your dog, it’s such a worry especially after they give us so much and I believe that we owe it to them to give back what we can. Julia has been amazing, guiding me and helping to improve Alfie’s well-being through the distance programme. I have learnt so much about him and to know that I have made a difference means the world to me.

I can’t thank Julia and Galen enough.""

"I used the Distance Support Programme for my elderly spaniel, who really doesn't like strangers getting too close, so the remote support was perfect. I was blown away by the report that I received; it was so insightful on his physical state, all from just a bunch of photos and videos. I really appreciated: the walk through each element assessed; the thoughts behind what caused his poor posture and gait; and the really practical, achievable solutions that were set out.""

"I'm so thankful to have found Galen Myotherapy and feel especially lucky getting to work with Emma on improving Rhuma's mobility issues (16+ yrs Jack Russell). From receiving the first report on Rhuma's comfort scale results and pictures, followed by video feedback and discussion on how the treatment was progressing Emma’s knowledge and support has been brilliant. The massage techniques (applied 3-4 times a week) shared with me were easy to use and I soon noticed a difference in Rhuma. In particular, her willingness and ability to run around has improved significantly. She quickly got used to (and really enjoys) her relaxing massages and these will continue to be a regular part of her routine. I'm looking forward to continuing to work with Emma and learning more about how Galen Myotherapy can help Rhuma."
